In 1991, Juliette, Georgia was a ghost town. But when the old Williams grocer was converted into the Whistle Stop Caf, the street that had 4 residents now could barely contain the tens of thousands visiting Juliette every year.
In 2010, actor Danny Vinson (Benjamin Button, Talladega Nights, Walk the Line, Bonnie & Clyde), brings 4 of his friends to tour McCracken Street and see why this location of the movie Fried Green Tomatoes is still thriving 20 years later.
They visit the spots made famous by the movie and they interview the local folk. Danny also narrates, in Ken Burns style, about the history of Juliette . . . from kudzu and fires that threaten the town from over a hundred years ago, to the tomatoes that fry up southern-tasting delicacies, giving the town life.
After exploring the town, the folks, and the history, Danny and his friends are consumed by the spirit of the movie. They become the characters, and soon there is a new mystery, a detective on the prowl, and of course, someone gets whacked by a frying pan.
With an original score by local musicians, as well as Danny himself and director Neill Calabro, the documentary is a priceless gem for lovers of the movie.
